Jimmy
Jimmy is an even-keeled guy trying his best to cope with life in the
modern world. He works at Bookrazy, the last independent bookstore in
town and attends the local university, clinging to his long-held
dreams of being a writer some day. Tall, lanky and possessing
memorable red hair, Jimmy often gets carried away inside his vivid
imagination. Being an easy-going idealist help to get him through the
daily drudgery of his low wage day job, myriad of dating problems, an
unsure career path, and all the curves life throw at him.
Keith
A pudgy, laid back and good-hearted guy who has been Jimmy’s best
friend since childhood. He works as a computer engineer and has a big
interest in sports and movies. Though very prudent, he likes to hit
the bars in his spare time in search of the elusive perfect woman.
Laticia
Jimmy’s co-worker at the bookstore, she is very often the voice of
reason, even if it’s with a touch of cheekiness. She’s got a keen
interest in forensics, probably from watching way too much CSI. She
also has an interest in politics and activist causes, which is why she
is studying pre-law at the university. Though she is a grounded
individual, she likes to let loose in dance and loves the funky art
scene.
Lola
A good friend of Jimmy’s who attends the university with him. She is
smart, pretty, affable and very neurotic. She comes from a wealthy
background, and is a very high maintenance social debutante. Despite
her anxieties and busybody nature, she maintains a close relationship
with Jimmy.
Mr. Olsen
Jimmy’s bald, middle-aged instructor at the university who teaches
English and creative writing. Though he is soft spoken and speaks in a
drawl, he has a sarcastic side and often mocks his students. Despite
this and his tough exams, he always has his students’ best interests
at heart.
Ms. Berkstrasser
The authoritarian and somewhat androgynous manager of the bookstore,
who has little patience for incompetence. With a real competitive
streak, everyone wonders why she runs a bookstore instead of a
football team. Beneath her coarse language and constant threats of
termination, she is actually a supportive and good boss to her quirky
bunch.
Zeke
He is the Bookrazy receiver, stocking carts and tallying the inventory
of books. He does just enough to get by, and is the general slacker of
the group. He is a fairly tech savvy dude whose free time mainly
consists of playing videogames, listening to indie music, and smoking
weed. An aspiring musician who hopes to one day be a rock star, right
now he is content to jam on his guitar with his buddies.
Zeppa
Jimmy’s loyal dog, she is very savvy and independent. Always learning
something new, she keeps busy in a variety of endeavors around the
house, like cooking up gourmet dishes, practicing yoga, and surfing on
the Internet.
Cabo
The bookstore hunk, he makes all the women swoon in his leather vest
and boots. Despite his idiotic tendencies and limited command of
English, there’s something about him that gets customers to buy more
than they intended. Maybe it’s his chiseled physique, long blond hair,
and foreigner’s appeal, all of which ooze sex. He is the expert on
romance, but mainly on experience, because it’s not quite clear if he
can read.
Brooke
Jimmy’s young and beautiful co-worker is impulsive and fanciful, but
can be ditsy and flaky beyond belief. Her unusual blonde locks,
boundless energy, love for the latest cultural trends, idolization of
the bizarre, mixed up philosophical ramblings, and general naivete
make her an endless source of fascination.
Hootie
A bookish, erudite owl with hard rimmed glasses is a frequent visitor
to Jimmy and Bookrazy. A bit of a curmudgeon and a snob, he has an
opinion on everything. He loves the arts and classical music, and
displays a wry sense of humor. Though he complains a lot, he cares
deeply about his friendship with Jimmy.
