Jimmy O'Hair

Jimmy O’Hair and Star Wars the Phantom Menace

February 10, 20129:13 am

Today, Friday February 10th, marks the 3-D re-release of the Star Wars films, so thought it would be fun to put up this Star Wars themed Jimmy O’Hair comic strip. Always have been a huge fan of the Star Wars films, and although the later efforts (or earlier episodes in Star Wars chronology) are not up to the standard of the first three films, I’ll still watch them. Still, Star Wars is such a vast territory of pop culture that most of us are familiar with that it is easy to allude to in comedy. Unless you were born on Mars (and maybe some Martians out there are reading this, so I apologize), most of us know Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Yoda, Obi Wan, Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2D2 & C3P0, etc. It gives a cartoonist free rein to come up with something that can rib that great and fertile Star Wars universe while at the same time fitting into the Jimmy O’Hair Bookrazy world. And in today’s strip you don’t have to deal with Jar Jar Binks (although I can’t promise that will be the case forever).

“Jimmy O’Hair”  – This comic strip centers on a lovable young man with memorable red hair trying his best to cope with life in the modern world. Jimmy is a twenty-something searching to find himself while attending college and working that perpetual in-between job until he finds his real career. His stopgap job is at an independent bookstore called the Bookrazy, where he must adjust to an autocratic boss and be the sane presence amongst his eccentric co-workers.  His dry wit, easy-going personality and idealism for the future help to get him through the daily drudgery of a job, a myriad of dating problems, an unsettling career path, and the ever-changing landscape of our modern age. Do you recognize the “Jimmy” in you?
