When a comic strip is named “Jimmy O’Hair”, you probably expect to see the title character in every strip. However, there are going to be occasions for when Jimmy is not in a daily or Sunday comic strip. Today is one of those days, as it gives other characters like Brooke and Zeke their chance for exposure. Although we get their personality traits in their interaction with Jimmy, this gives them an additional opportunity to shine. Already, there have been strips published without Jimmy (Zeppa at the Oscars, for instance), but they have been few and far between. Jimmy is, after all, the main character around which the strip revolves. And perhaps, like the old saying goes, Jimmy’s absence will make the heart grow fonder when he returns! As for the Hunger Games, naturally it’s a popular book series and a national phenomenon right now with its success at the movie box office. You can’t go anywhere these days without hearing about Katniss Everdeen, Petra Mellark, or the annual hunger games where only one survives in the country of Panem. Because Jimmy and his co-workers work at the Bookrazy, they cannot avoid the Hunger Games hysteria. So here was an opportunity to find a little humor and get the Jimmy O’Hair gang in on the craze!

Today’s Sunday Jimmy O’Hair comic strip celebrates Easter and also provides a humorous take on Easter eggs. A lot of us have had the chance to decorate Easter eggs, and come up with fanciful designs. Today’s strip takes it a step further with funny puns on “eggs” and what some of the crazier designs would be like. There are definitely some “mod” and “avant garde” egg designs out there, so some of these are probably not far from the truth! Anyway, hope that everyone is enjoying a Happy Easter/Passover holiday weekend, and thank you for keeping up with Jimmy O’Hair and friends!

The Major League Baseball season has started up, and that’s the theme for today’s Jimmy O’Hair comic strip. Jimmy is a baseball fan, so naturally he is enthused with the arrival of Opening Day. Just like other current news topics, Jimmy will chime in every now and then on MLB topics because of his passion for the game. Hopefully, it will not include a lot of PED talk! Although he is not pictured in today’s baseball strip, Hootie is also a baseball enthusiast, and deems himself an excellent baseball tactician in the Tona La Russa mode. In future strips, he is the de-facto manager for Jimmy’s team, where Jimmy plays the game alongside his Bookrazy co-workers and friends. Jimmy isn’t the most talented player on the squad, but he is competent and gives his all when he is out on the diamond. Of course, his co-workers’ shenanigans and foibles on the field will provide plenty of humor, but it’s all in good fun. And maybe one of these days Jimmy’s love of baseball will give him the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a Major League Baseball game. Commish, are you listening?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! With a name like O’Hair, Jimmy is naturally of Irish descent, so couldn’t let this day pass without a little Irish humor. Although Jimmy’s Irish heritage hasn’t been trumped up in the comic strip to date, there will be times in the future to have fun with it. Today’s comic strip doesn’t specifically refer to Jimmy’s Irish side, but he is dressed in green both in the comic strip and in this little Jimmy O’Hair St. Patrick’s advertisement below! Rather, the comic strip today focuses on Brooke and her love for the festive spirit of the holiday. Or as St. Patty’s day has become known as in many circles … “St. Party’s Day.” Anyway, hope that everyone has the luck of the Irish and a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

It’s that time of year known as “March Madness”, when the NCAA basketball tournament takes center stage in the sporting world. There are wall-to-wall games full of frenzied action, and the “sudden death” nature of the contests adds to the excitement. “Bracketologists”are everywhere, or the people attempting to break down who will win each game of the 68 team field to produce a champion. Even President Obama has gotten into the act the last few years, furnishing his picks in a video segment to ESPN. It is challenging and fun to try to predict who will make it to the promised land, i.e. college basketball’s “Final Four.” Naturally, Jimmy O’Hair thinks he can do it too, which is the reason behind this one-paneled strip!
